Do this throughout the day (the convenience of it will allow it to be performed at home, in the office or in the car) and regain your equilibrium.

Slow hours, dull duties: the day has been a burden. It began earlier than expected, was shaped to the shrieks of your children — they were fighting over imaginary friends, refusing to offer you a moment’s rest. It then became a battle of breakfast and baths, trying to race the clock and greet the school bus. You missed it, however; and your car sputtered as you had to then chauffeur your kids, weave within traffic. The morning was frantic.

The afternoon and evening were far worse, though.

A house had to be cleaned (with crayon scrubbed from the walls). And a budget had to be calculated (with every dollar understood). It’s all been… too much.

And you fear you’re now about to break.

A mother’s work is rarely finished. There is always some crises to care for, some obligation to meet. There are no seconds to simply breathe. And the stress of this eventually builds. It’s not a quick process but it is a steady one. Anxiety is unable to be channeled over time, eventually reaches dangerous heights and spills out: causing you to hurt the ones you love, lash out in fury.

This isn’t what you want. It is, however, what will happen if you don’t take care.

Take time for yourself. Too often is this assumed to be impossible, thought to be a waste of precious seconds. Allowing yourself to relax, however, is essential in remaining calm in the wake of domestic worries. If you’re forever stressed, you’re forever on the edge of a breakdown; and this will end poorly for all. Finding ways to gain a little happiness throughout the day, though, will reduce tension: offering sharper focus and stronger efforts. You’ll function better because you won’t be angry.

And this is vital for both you and your family.

Everyone deals with stress at some point or another but new mothers can feel like life is even more frustrating and stressful because of the addition of a new baby. There are many ways to deal with stress management and be able to function at a healthier level after having a baby. Here are a few tips that may help with stress management for new mothers.

Be more realistic. Having a baby is hard work, especially for new mothers. So don’t feel that you have to keep up with everything at once. It is okay if the house doesn’t get cleaned as often or you feel like you look frazzled. All of this is perfectly normal. On that note, take some time to yourself to feel pretty and get the relaxation you need. If you have someone that can help take some of the load off of your shoulders, all the better. You need time to do normal things and get yourself back to feeling good so take the time if you can. If you have other family members that can help with the house work then take advantage of that as well. There is no reason why you should be burdened with it all.

Get away for a little while. If at all possible, get out and go for a walk. If you don’t have anyone to help with your newborn baby then take the baby with you if the weather is nice. A nice, long walk can alleviate a ton of stress and help you have some alone time to think and enjoy the surroundings. You’d be surprised just how helpful a walk can be.

The important aspect of stress management for new mothers is to learn to manage your time and to make sure that some of your day includes time to yourself.
